Hard Disk Drive (HDD)
What is a Hard Disk Drive?
A Hard disk drive, abbreviated HDD, is a physical component of a computer (both desktops and laptops) and is used as the secondary storage device. It is also referred to as simply a hard drive. A hard drive is used to store the operating system, computer applications, and files, including documents, images, video, and music, among others. The storage size of hard disks is usually measured in bytes. Currently, most hard disk drives have a storage space of 500 GB up to 22 TB. Hard disk drives use magnetic plates, known as splatters, to store data.
Depending on various components and features, hard drives vary in physical size and connector types. However, common hard drives use SATA connection type to connect to a computer's motherboard.
Hard disk drives (HDD) have, however, been replaced by solid state drives (SSD), which provide faster data transfer speeds thanks to their storage structure.
