What is Random Access Memory?
Random Access Memory (RAM) refers to a computer's primary (main) storage. The computer uses the RAM to store information on active programs and applications, which is used by the CPU when needed. The storage space of RAM is usually indicated in bytes - gigabytes (GB), often 1GB, 2GB, 4GB, 8GB, and 16GB. Unlike the permanent storage provided by a hard disk drive (HDD) or solid-state drive (SSD), RAM storage is often volatile, meaning data stored in RAM modules are lost when the computer is powered down or the computer loses power.
